25 March 2021– The Minister of Energy Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mat Suny Bin Haji Md. Hussein and BSM Managing Director Muhammad Norshafiee bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, unveiled Shell Recharge on 25 March 2021. This is in support of Brunei Darussalam’s aspirations to meet the country’s climate action goals of having cleaner energy solutions to power transport sustainably by 2035.

In BSM’s journey to realize the Brunei Darussalam National Electric Vehicle Joint Task Force (EVJTF)’s initiatives, BSM will be offering a range of charging solutions to support the future of EVs. With Shell Recharge, BSM will be able to offer electric vehicle drivers a convenient way to charge their cars via high-powered charging at on-the-go retail sites, fast charging at specific destinations (offices, commercial centers, etc) or at home. This is in addition to the range of quality fuels BSM will continue to offer to Brunei drivers at our retail sites nationwide.

“BSM is committed to offer cleaner energy solutions to power Brunei’s transportation sector. This is an exciting time for the nation as we see the country embrace greener mobility and welcome evolving technologies to co-exist with conventional transport fuels in the next few years,” commented Brunei Shell Marketing Co Sdn Bhd Managing Director Muhammad Norshafiee bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil.

“I am pleased to share, as part of the EVTF pilot project, BSM will be offering to the public a high-powered 150kW charger and a 50kW rapid charger starting this year at selected retail station and destination site. These locations have been chosen because of their proximity to main driving routes and infrastructure readiness. BSM is also working with car dealerships to offer home DC chargers to their customers.

“We will be working on expanding to other locations and in parallel explore opportunities to collaborate with commercial centers and office buildings to install rapid chargers while continuing to work with car dealerships for home charger DC installations,” Muhammad Norshafiee further added.

BSM will continue to work closely with relevant authorities to identify the needs and requirements to meet the growth of electric vehicle ownership.

From March 25 to March 28 at Bridex (Hall 2), BSM will showcase a range of chargers – the home charger for overnight charging, and the 50kW rapid chargers that can charge most cars from zero-80% in 30 minutes. In addition to this, BSM will be carrying out a survey to gauge public’s preference for future Shell Recharge destinations.

Earlier this morning, a live emergency exercise was conducted at Shahryza Retail Station at Bunut by Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sendirian Berhad (BSM) in collaboration with Brunei Government emergency response team (Fire and Rescue Department, Emergency Medical Ambulance Services Brunei Darussalam & The Royal Brunei Police Force) and also personnel from Shahryza Retail Station. The retail station was initially closed to allow for the live emergency exercise to be carried out but has now been reopened to resume normal operations.

The exercise was conducted as part of an integrated emergency preparedness to ensure retail stations comply to BSM’s processes during emergency situations. It also served as a refresher in ensuring that the whole team is well versed on their roles in the event of emergencies.

We remain committed to Safety in principle, and the safety of the people in retail stations and the community in the surrounding areas are very important to us. Only by working together, we can achieve Goal Zero.
