In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Brunei Shell Marketing Co. Sdn Bhd (BSM) organized a virtual Breast Cancer Awareness Talk with guest speaker, Dr Hjh Norol-Ehsan Hj Abd Hamid, Senior Medical Officer from Health Promotion Centre, Ministry of Health.

According to Dr Hjh Norol Ehsan, “Breast cancer is the leading cause of death amongst women in Brunei where in 1-2 years having cases that are men. Early detection is crucial for prevention.”

Where regular breast self-examination with doctors or nurses every year at the nearest women’s health clinic are recommended, Dr Hjh Norol Ehsan also showed a live demonstration on how to do regular self-examination on a dummy which can be done by both women and men.

The talk followed with a sharing session from one of BSM’s Breast Cancer Survivor of stage 3 for 15 years, Pg Hjh Rosmah Pg Hj Md Yassin. Pg Hjh Rosmah shared that she was not aware of the symptoms of breast cancer when she first found out about it and emphasized the importance of being aware for men and women alike. “Have an early checkup as part of the prevention,” she said, “as well as get your loved ones involved in the process as you go through it.”
