Bandar Seri Begawan, 30 September 2015 – Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sendirian Berhad is pleased to have successfully partnered with a number of agencies in the launch of its iRead, Football Clinic and HSSE program in Sultan Hassan Primary School, Bangar, Temburong District.

After blessing the event with a doa selamat recited by Ustaz Amrull bin Haji Ariffin, Religious Teacher in Sultan Hashim Primary School, BSM Head of Branding and Communications, Mohd Adini bin Hj Mohd Daini delivered his welcoming remarks. To officiate the event, the Temburong District Officer, Haji Abdul Hamid bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah took the opportunity to read a few pages to the Year 3 students present.

Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sendirian Berhad (BSM) together with the Department of School in Ministry of Education embarks on a three year iRead Programme to encourage students in improving their performance in English and Mathematics proficiency. The programme’s objective is to develop, strengthen and instil the interest of the students especially from the kindergarten level to year 3’s basic academic skills in literacy and numeracy directly and develop their personal and inter-personal skills indirectly. This is aligned with the call made by the Ministry of Education in improving an individual’s foundation in literary and numeracy.

On the field, to promote active minds in active bodies, BSM also invited the Football Academy from the Sports School to organise a football clinic. The football clinic consists of 4 drills including a session of agility, dribbling, passing and control. To complement the reading, the field activities also exercises the mind which can contribute towards increased memory, improve problem solving skills and boost creativity.

The Fire and Rescue Department were also present during the event to give a fire demonstration to the children. This will equip the children with the knowledge on how to react in the presence of fire.

Also present were senior officials from Royal Brunei Police Force, Fire and Rescue Department, Narcotics Control Bureau, Sports School, BSM Leadership Team, representatives from the retail station owners in Temburong District as well as business partners and volunteers of Brunei Shell Marketing.
