Safety is of paramount concern to Shell Gas and our commitment to pursue the goal of no harm to people in our country and to protect the environment is reflected in Shell Malaysia’s Health, Safety and Environment Policy. In this site, we have provided some general safety information based on the Properties and hazards of LPG and have also included the Product Safety Data Sheet. There are also some safety tips for home users on how to handle cylinders and information for industrial customers on how to keep bulk tank safe. In the unlikely event of a gas leak, follow the emergency measures and contact Shell Gas without delay.
THE 7-POINTS LPG SAFETY CHECKLIST
1. Environment
- Good ventilation, curtains are drawn apart and windows are open when cooking
- Combustible materials are not placed near the stove
2. Cylinder
- Always stored in an upright position with the valve on the top.
- Cylinder is placed at the ground level at least 1.5 metre away from the stove.
- Stove must always be positioned at a higher level than the cylinder.
3 Valve
- Valve should be cleaned from oil, dust
4 O-Ring
- Inspect general condition. Check for crack, brittle and hardened.
5 Hose
- Determine whether or not the hose is an approved item (BS3212).
- LPG hose is to be replaced every 2 years.
- Check for secure connections at both ends.
- Inspect the hose swell swells and cracks.
- Ensure the hose is free from kinks.
- Test any leak using soap solution. I f gas bubbles form and grow in size, it indicate that there is a leak.
6 LPG Regulator
- Determines whether or not the regulator is an approved item (RECA Quick On Type 634).
- LPG regulators are to be changed every 5 years.
- Check for secure connection between the regulator and valve.
- Wipe or clean any dirt on the LPG regulator and free dirt from air vent of regulator (if required)
- Turn off LPG regulator after each use.
7 Stove Flame Check
- Never leave cooking unattended.
- Do not rest hot cooking appliance on the cylinder and do not subject it to excessive heat.
- When changing the LPG cylinders, ensure the gas stove is switched off and no naked flame nearby.
- Do not drop or drag the cylinders
- Do not switch on or off the lights or use the telephone (source of spark) if - there is any gas leak detected
